The Map room Is huge and really Crowded - 30k
The Map Room

This gallery, called simply the Map Room or the Gallery of Maps, was named after the 40 topographical maps of the regions of Italy, and of the Church's possessions that Gregory XIII had painted here between 1580 and 1583.  These maps constitute and extremely important record of 16th century geography and cartography.

Though the cartographic works of the Map Room undoubtedly have historic significance, to me the artwork on the ceiling was more visually interesting.

The Map Room is 120 m. long and 6 m. wide.  Every inch of the gallery's barrel vault ceiling is covered with dazzling frescos.  The colors are simply brilliant.
